This 8-hour EM 385-1-1 Safety & Health Topics course—offered through the EST Safety Network in partnership with ClickSafety—covers key safety and health topics from the 2014 Edition of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Safety and Occupational Health Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1).
This course is designed for SSHOs and government contractors working on projects that were solicited prior to 2024 and continue operating under the 2014 edition of the manual. The EM 385-1-1 manual, developed by USACE in collaboration with NAVFAC, establishes safety requirements on federal projects that in some cases exceed OSHA standards.
SSHOs can take this course once per year to satisfy their annual 8-hour documented training requirement. It also provides general awareness or refresher training for general contractors, military personnel, and other employees assigned to federally funded projects.

Certification and Passing Requirements
To receive your IACET certificate of completion, you must pass all knowledge checkpoints with a minimum score of 70% and complete the course evaluation form. Upon completion, you will earn 0.8 CEUs from an accredited IACET provider.
Annual SSHO Training Requirement
Every primary SSHO on a government project governed by EM 385-1-1 must complete at least 8 hours of documented formal, online, or self-study safety and health coursework annually, plus one OSHA 30-Hour course (General Industry or Construction). This course satisfies the annual 8-hour requirement as specified in EM 385-1-1, Section 01.A.17.d. SSHOs may take this course once per year.
