Product Details
Description
This HAZWOPER 16-Hour course—offered through the EST Safety Network in partnership with ClickSafety—is designed to be taken after an initial 24-hour HAZWOPER course, bringing your total classroom training to 40 hours as required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120. This course builds on the foundation of your 24-hour training with advanced topics in respiratory protection, emergency HAZMAT response, PPE selection, hazardous waste detection, soil analysis, and excavation safety.
OSHA requires varying levels of HAZWOPER training depending on the nature and extent of a worker’s exposure to hazardous substances. Workers who are likely to be exposed over permissible limits, regularly use respirators, or serve as on-site supervisors must complete 40 total hours of HAZWOPER training. This 16-hour course—combined with your prior 24-hour course—fulfills that requirement.
Prerequisite: HAZWOPER 24-Hour Course Required
You must have completed a HAZWOPER 24-hour course as required by OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.120 before taking this course. This 16-hour course builds on that training to reach your 40-hour total.
Additionally, students must obtain site-specific training and two days of actual field experience under the direct supervision of a trained supervisor. This 16-hour course does not count toward field experience days.
About Your Certificate

*Available upon passing all checkpoints and completing the evaluation.
Do I need to complete the HAZWOPER 24-Hour course before taking this?
Yes. This 16-hour course is designed as a continuation of the 24-hour course. Together, they total 40 hours of HAZWOPER classroom training as required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120. You cannot take this course without first completing the 24-hour course.
Why would I take the 24-Hour + 16-Hour path instead of the 40-Hour course?
The 24-hour course is designed for workers with limited exposure to hazardous waste. If your exposure level increases and you need to reach 40 total hours, the 16-hour course bridges the gap. The standalone 40-hour course covers the same total hours in a single course for workers who know upfront they need full certification.
What certification do I receive from this HAZWOPER course?
You will receive an IACET certificate of completion documenting 1.6 CEUs and 16 contact hours. Combined with your 24-hour certificate, this documents your 40 total hours of HAZWOPER classroom training.
Does completing this course fully certify me?
This course fulfills the classroom training component. Full HAZWOPER compliance also requires site-specific training and two days of supervised field experience. Your employer provides the additional components.
Do I need an annual refresher after completing 40 hours?
Yes. OSHA requires an 8-hour annual refresher for all HAZWOPER-certified workers. See our HAZWOPER 8-Hour Refresher course.
How long does the HAZWOPER 16-Hour online course take?
The course is 16 hours. You can work at your own pace and pause/resume as needed.
Is the HAZWOPER 16-Hour course available in Spanish?
No. This course is currently available in English only.
Who issues my HAZWOPER certificate?
Your IACET certificate is issued by ClickSafety. Access through your Enhance Safety account.
Are there additional requirements for supervisors?
Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 paragraph (e)(4) has additional training requirements specifically for supervisors and managers directly responsible for employees engaged in hazardous waste operations. The 40-hour classroom training is one component. Consult with your employer for the full list of supervisor-specific requirements.
